On behalf of the Rockaway Borough Police Department, I would like to welcome you to our web site. We think that the information contained within this site will assist you in learning about the police department and the members that serve in this fine community.

Message from the Chief

Our police officers are dedicated to this fine profession and are here to serve the citizens and general public that reside, have businesses and travel through the Borough of Rockaway. The goal of the police department is community service and a solid commitment to protection of life and property.

Our police officers are trained educated professionals and are highly committed individuals who strive to assure that all citizens are safe and secure. Our police officers have always taken pride in their appearence and the perception that they convey to the public.

The quality of life issue is a very important factor in our department and we will continually take every effort possible to assure that this commitment does not falter.

The Organization

The Rockaway Borough Police Department has three bureaus: Patrol, Records and Service. Each of these areas has a Bureau Commander that oversees their repective functions.

The Patrol Bureau handles all uniform patrol and Detective Bureau duties. While the Records Bureau handles record management, training assignments, computers and UCR reporting to the New Jersey State Police. The Service Bureau handles patrol car maintenance, traffic assignments, special duty details and detailing all school crossing guards. .

The Safe Schools Program

This safety program places police officers in the Morris Hills district classrooms. Police officers from Rockaway Borough, Rockaway Twp., Denville and Wharton spend one day a week in the district's two high schools, Morris Hills and Morris Knolls. The idea is to develope a comfort level between officers and students. This program makes the officer visible and available but similar to the DARE officers, the police officers assigned to the schools will only take action if an emergency occurs.
